ARCHAEOLOGY

 

Ancient America - 60 minutes; Camera One.
     This tape explores many of the prehistoric sites in the Southwest including Mesa Verde. Chaco Canyon, Chimney Rock, etc. A discussion of the astronomical implications of several sites are also included.

Colorado: The Indians - 31 minutes; Colorado Historical Society.      This video is actually two tapes on one reel.  The first tape traces the development of prehistoric cultures from the migrations across the Bering Strait to the end of the great Pueblo period at Mesa Verde.  The second tape presents a general history of the Indians who occupied the mountain and plains regions.  

The Early Americans - 40 minutes; Shell Oil Company
     This tape discusses the existence of man in the New World from an excavation of a mamoth kill site at which Clovis projectile points were found. 


Kansas Archaeology - 22 minutes;  Kansas Historical Society.
     This tape is a conversion from three slide programs dealing with Kansas archaeology, including archaeological methods and cultural sequence in Kansas experimental archaeology.

The Mammoth Site - DVD, 55 minutes; This site near Hot Springs, SD, which is more than 26,000 years old, was a sinkhole in the Spearfish Shale (Triassic) which trapped as many as 100 Columbian Mammoths and Wooly Mammoths.  So far, they have uncovered 56 skeletons (53 Columbian, 3 Wooly). Other mammals were trapped as well.

Mesa Verde - 60 minutes;  INTERpark.
     The mysteries of an early civilization are unraveled in this video hosted by the late Dr. Robert Lister.  He provides an archaeological overview of ancient and early history in Mesa Verde and surrounding areas.

The National Monuments of New Mexico - 57 minutes;  RCM Pictures.
     This tape reviews three national monuments in New Mexico - Chaco Culture National Historical Park, El Morro National Monument and Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument. All of these national monuments are in archeologically significant areas.

Pre-History of Kansas  - 10 tapes - 2 hours each;  Kansas State Historical Society.
     Recently retired Kansas State Archeologist, Tom Witty, explores the pre-history of Kansas in considerable detail, commencing with the Paleo-Indian presence.

Prehistoric Man In Colorado  - 17 minutes; Colorado Historical Society. 
 

 

 

Shadow of the Volcano - 28 minutes; Echo Production.  Outlines the history of the Sinagua and Cohonlina cultures and their relationship to the volcano that produced the Sunset Crater. 

360 Degrees of Mesa Verde - Virtural Tour - Four Chambers.  45 Interactive 360 degree panoramic views of teh archaelogical sites at Mesa Verde.  Also exposures of the Mesa Verde formation are shown.
